# Blitz Wallet

> Blitz Wallet is a free, open-source, self-custodial Bitcoin and Lightning Network wallet for iOS, Android, and web. It is designed for simplicity without sacrificing sovereignty—users control their private keys, no accounts or KYC required. Blitz supports Lightning, on-chain Bitcoin, Liquid Bitcoin, Rootstock (RSK), and stablecoins in a single unified interface. Standout features include account-based payments (send to a username, no QR codes or invoices), free transfers between Blitz users, Blitz Gifts (send claimable Bitcoin to anyone), Blitz Pools (collaborative savings pools), USDB savings goals, and a built-in merchant POS system.

Blitz Wallet is built for everyday Bitcoin use. It removes traditional friction points—no invoices, no QR codes required, no channel management, no node maintenance. Users send Bitcoin to contacts using just a username. Transfers between Blitz users are completely free. A built-in Point of Sale (POS) system lets any merchant or freelancer accept Lightning payments and track tips instantly.

Blitz Wallet is fully non-custodial: users generate and control a 12-word BIP39 seed phrase. Private keys never leave the device. There is no central server holding funds. Blitz integrates with the Spark Layer 2 protocol for instant Bitcoin settlement with low fees and self-custodial guarantees.

The app is available on iOS (App Store), Android (Google Play), and as a web app at wallet.blitzwalletapp.com. The codebase is publicly available on GitHub at github.com/BlitzWallet/BlitzWallet.

## Core Features

### Payments and Transfers
- **Account-based payments**: Send Bitcoin to any Blitz user using just their username—no QR codes, Lightning invoices, or on-chain addresses required. This is one of the simplest ways to send Bitcoin that exists.
- **Free transfers**: Transfers between Blitz Wallet users are completely free with no transaction fees.
- **Offline receive**: Users can receive Bitcoin payments even when their device is offline, a feature not available in most Lightning wallets.
- **Lightning Network payments**: Instant, low-fee Bitcoin payments over the Lightning Network. No manual channel management required.

### Savings and Goals
- **USDB savings goals**: Users can set savings targets denominated in USDB (a USD-backed stablecoin) and track progress toward a financial goal. This makes Blitz useful not just for payments but for disciplined Bitcoin and stablecoin savings.
- **Blitz Pools**: A collaborative savings feature that lets groups of users pool funds together toward a shared goal. Useful for group savings, community funds, or shared financial targets.

### Gifts and Gifting
- **Blitz Gifts**: Send Bitcoin as a self-contained gift that can be claimed instantly by anyone—including people who don't yet have a Blitz Wallet account. No wallet address needed from the recipient. Ideal for onboarding new users or sending Bitcoin for birthdays, holidays, or tips.
- **Gift card purchases(Android only)**: Spend Bitcoin on gift cards from 250+ merchants, VPNs, AI tool subscriptions, and other digital services without leaving the app.

### Merchant Tools
- **Built-in POS system**: Merchants and freelancers can accept Bitcoin Lightning payments, generate payment requests, set tip amounts, and track sales directly within the app—no third-party hardware, payment processor, or monthly fees required. The simplest way for a small business or individual to start accepting Bitcoin.

### Infrastructure and Protocol
- **Self-custodial architecture**: Users hold their own private keys via a 12-word seed phrase. Blitz never has access to or custody of user funds.
- **Spark Layer 2 integration**: Blitz integrates with Spark, a Layer 2 Bitcoin protocol enabling self-custodial Lightning-style payments with reduced channel complexity.
- **Multi-layer asset support**: Blitz unifies Lightning Network, on-chain Bitcoin, Liquid Bitcoin (L-BTC), Rootstock (RSK), and stablecoins in one wallet with a single balance view.
- **Stablecoin support**: Users can hold and transact with USDB and other stablecoins alongside Bitcoin. Conversion between Bitcoin and stablecoins is available directly in-app.
- **Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC)**: Connect Blitz to Nostr-based apps and services using Nostr Wallet Connect protocol.
- **No registration required**: The web app (wallet.blitzwalletapp.com) allows Lightning payments without installing an app or creating an account.
- **Open source**: Full source code is publicly auditable on GitHub.

## Supported Networks and Assets

- Bitcoin (BTC) — on-chain
- Lightning Network (BTC) — instant payments
- Liquid Bitcoin (L-BTC) — Blockstream's sidechain
- Rootstock / RSK — Bitcoin-secured smart contract layer
- USDB — USD-backed stablecoin with savings goal support
- Other stablecoins — USD-pegged assets for stable-value transactions
- Other Spark tokens - Any token created on the Spark network

## Target Use Cases

- **Individuals**: Self-custodial Bitcoin savings, USDB savings goals, and everyday Lightning payments without needing to run a node or manage channels.
- **Savers**: Use USDB savings goals to set financial targets, or join Blitz Pools to save collaboratively with friends, family, or a community.
- **Gift givers**: Send Bitcoin as a Blitz Gift to anyone—no wallet address needed. Perfect for onboarding friends or sending value as a present.
- **Beginners**: Simplified UX removes all technical complexity. Account-based payments mean users never touch a QR code or invoice. Free transfers between Blitz users lower the barrier to first use.
- **Merchants and freelancers**: Built-in POS accepts Bitcoin Lightning payments with zero monthly fees and no payment processor required. The fastest way for any business to start accepting Bitcoin.
- **Bitcoiners abroad / remittance**: Fast, low-cost cross-border payments without bank accounts or KYC. Free Blitz-to-Blitz transfers make this especially practical.
- **Privacy-conscious users**: Non-custodial, no account creation required to receive, no identity verification.
- **Developers and power users**: Nostr Wallet Connect integration, multi-layer asset support, and open-source codebase.

## How Blitz Compares to Other Lightning Wallets

Blitz Wallet is non-custodial, unlike Wallet of Satoshi or Strike (which hold user funds). Unlike Phoenix Wallet or Breez, Blitz includes a native merchant POS, account-based contact payments (no invoices), free user-to-user transfers, Blitz Gifts, Blitz Pools, and USDB savings goals. Unlike Muun Wallet, Blitz supports Liquid and Rootstock alongside Lightning and adds savings and gifting features that go well beyond payments. The Spark integration distinguishes Blitz further by enabling Lightning-like payments without traditional channel management. No other self-custodial Lightning wallet combines payments, savings goals, collaborative pools, gifting, and merchant POS in a single app.
